ROTARACT CLUSTER PROJECT – 2017/18 Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law along with the Rotaract clubs of Colombo East, College of Chemical Science, Kandy, Male, Nallur, Negombo and Alumni of University of Moratuwa – namely the ‘Cluster 7’, successfully carried out its cluster project for the year 2017/18. The preliminary arrangements of the project started in the month of June 2017 and the project was implemented during January 2018. Our project, namely ‘The Habitat for Humanity’ was an initiative to address the environmental concern by achieving certain United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the year. The project was carried out in three phases, each addressing different SDGs and also each covering different aspects of the environment. Under Phase one, we provided a water purification system to Pusiyankulama Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura as a part of eradicating chronic kidney disease prevalent in the area. Until January of this year, the students and teachers of Nakkavita Kanishta Vidyalaya in Deraniyagala had to trek 1.5 kilometers to reach the main water tank of the area to fetch water for their daily needs. With the understanding that ready access to clean water is a right that should be enjoyed by all, Cluster 7 took up the charge of installing a pipeline from the tank to the school as Phase 2 of their project Level Up. To fulfill this purpose, Cluster 7 enlisted the service   of several residents in the area who were willing to render their valuable time and energy to uplift the infrastructure of their community. With their immense help, the pipeline was fixed up in a weeks' time. The Rotaractors arrived at the school on the 31 st  of January for the final time, to witness the denouement of their grand undertaking. While final preparations with regards to the pipeline were being carried out, the Rotaractors began the task of renovating the school music room....

LEVEL UP- PHASE 1, DAY 3 On the 3 rd  of November, Team Level Up visited Kandalama Thennakoon Maha Vidyalaya for the final time, completing Phase 1 of their cluster project. As usual, they received a warm welcome from the school administration and not long after, the students settled in for their day ahead. The tutor for the day Ms. Samya Senaratne of Campbell International School Colombo introduced herself and gave a brief overview of the days’ programme and learning outcomes. First, the students attempted an English grammar worksheet, which they completed with the instructor's guidance. She explained the rules of grammar, questioning the students on what they knew and elaborating on what they did not. The students, with their memory refreshed, then moved on to an English model paper. The instructor worked through every question patiently and methodically, actively interacting with the students and even helping them in oral English. As the session paused for lunch...
