Level Up: Phase 1 Day 1

‘LEVEL UP’: PHASE 1, DAY 1

LEVEL UP is the project initiated by Cluster 07 which includes the Rotaract Club of Colombo East, Rotaract Club of Panadura, Rotaract Club of UOC, Faculty of Law, Rotaract Club of Kandy, Rotaract Club of Negambo, Rotaract Club of University Moratuwa Alumni, Rotaract Club of College of Chemical Sciences, Rotaract Club of Nallur.

The first phase of project LEVEL- UP commenced with a team of Rotaractors visiting the Kandalama Thennakoon Madya Maha Vidyalaya, situated in the heart of Dambulla, on the 21st of October.

The first day was to feature a revisional Mathematics programme for the G.C.E O/L students, with the aim of refreshing the student’s knowledge on the subject. The programme was conducted by Mrs. Janaranjanie Wattage, Vice principal of Science College Mt.Lavinia, a long serving and qualified math teacher.

Arriving as the bell rung signaling the start of the school day, the Rotaractors were soon led to the building where the seminar was to take place, after a brief meeting with the school administration.

The seminar kicked off with the lighting of the oil lamp, and the Vice Principal welcomed the Rotaractors with a genial speech, rousing the students into attention.

The twenty seven students settled into their seats while the Rotaractors distributed the mathematics paper set for the day as well a stationary pack inclusive of useful mathematical instruments for each student.

While the instructor explained how to come by the answers, the Rotaractors made rounds among the lines of students, making sure they were keeping up with the teaching and offering advice when necessary. The tutor focused more on simplifying problem areas which the students found most challenging. The whole seminar was poised to be clarifying yet comprehensive.

During the students lunch period, the Rotaractors ventured onto the school grounds where the younger students were playing gleefully. As they went around talking to several groups, the children shared personal details of their lives, their education and their hobbies. Every student seemed to share a passion for discovering and learning new things, and the Rotaractors found the students to be heartwarmingly curious, confident and questioning.

While the seminar resumed after the break, the Rotaractors ventured into a classroom of students whose teacher was absent for the day and decided to play interactive word games with them. To their pleasure, the students responded actively and with so much enthusiasm that soon enough, another class joined in on the fun. The game was set as a competition among two teams of students and it proved to be both amusing and educational.

The Rotaractors toured the rest of school, talking with the teachers and seeking areas in which they could ameliorate the academic standards and other facilities of the school to provide the students with a more conducive learning environment.

Too soon, the school day was coming to an end. The tutor wrapped up the session by answering any questions the students posed. One of the staff members of the school expressed his thanks to the instructor, the Rotaractors and the students present that day for their contribution to this endeavor. The students were treated to refreshments for a hard day’s work.

Rtr Vikum Jayasinghe gave an impassioned speech on the value on knowledge and how far it can carry a person. He went on to remind the students that the things you learn from parents and teachers will be incalculably useful in later life and to never discount them.

The Rotaractors returned to Colombo, tired and content, humbled by the school’s gratitude and their enthusiasm, knowing that their efforts that day were appreciated. Team Level Up remains eager to return to the school for Day 2 of the project.

කොළඹ නැගෙනහිර රොටරැක් සංගමය, පානදුර රොටරැක් සංගමය, කොළඹ විශ්ව විද්‍යායීය නීති පීඨ රොටරැක් සංගමය, මහනුවර රොටරැක් සංගමය, මීගමුව රොටරැක් සංගමය, මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ආදී විද්‍යාර්ථීන්ගේ රොටරැක් සංගමය,රසායනික විද්‍යා අධ්‍යයනය පිලිබඳ අධ්‍යාපනික ආයතනයේ රොටරැක් සංගමය සහ නල්ලුර් රොටරැක් සංගමය යන රොටරැක් සංගම් එක්ව සංවිධාන කරනු ලැබූ LEVEL UP සමූහ ව්‍යාපෘතියේ පළමු අදියර පසුගිය 21වනදා දඹුල්ල, කන්දලම තෙන්නකෝන් මාධ්‍ය මහා විද්‍යාලයේදී පැවැත්වුණා .

එහි පළමු දිනයේදී අ.පො.ස සා/පෙළ සිසුන්ට ගණිතය විෂය පිලිබඳ සම්මන්ත්‍රණයක් පැවැත්වූ අතර එය මෙහෙයවුයේ ප්‍රසිද්ධ ගණිත දේශකවරියක වූ ගල්කිස්ස විද්‍යා විද්‍යාලයේ උප විදුහල්පතිනී ජනරන්ජනී වත්තගේ  මහත්මිය විසිනි.

මෙම සම්මන්ත්‍රණය සඳහා සිසුන් 27දෙනෙකු සහභාගී වී සිටි අතර ඔවුන් සියලු දෙනාට රොටරැක් සංගම් සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන් විසින් ගණිතය විෂයට අදාළ ප්‍රශ්න පත්‍ර කට්ටල සහ විෂය සමගාමී උපකරණ කට්ටල බෙදා දීම සිදුකරනු ලැබුවා.

විවේක කාලය අතරතුරදී එම සිසුන් සමග සුහද පිළිසඳරක නිරතවී ඔවුන්ගේ ගැටළු සාකච්ඡ කිරීමටද අප සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන් අමතක කලේ නැහැ.

මීට අමතරව පන්ති කාමර කිහිපයක සිසුන් සමග අධ්‍යාපනික ක්‍රීඩා කිහිපයක් සිදු කරමින් ඔවුන් සතුටු කිරීමටද අප පියවර ගනු ලැබුවා.

වැඩසටහන අවසානයේදී ඔවුන් සියලු දෙනාටම සංග්‍රහයක් පැවැත්වුණු අතර සම්මන්ත්‍රණය පිළිබඳව විද්‍යාලයීය ගුරුභවතෙකු විසින් සිදුකළ ස්තුති කිරීමකින් පසු කොළඹ විශ්ව විද්‍යායීය නීති පීඨ රොටරැක් සංගමයේ සභාපති විකුම් ජයසිංහ සොයුරාගේ කතාවෙන් අනතුරුව වැඩසටහන නිමාවට පත්වුණා.

මෙම සමුහ ව්‍යාපෘතිය සඳහා සහභාගී වීමට ලැබීම පිළිබද අප සංගමය බෙහෙවින් සතුටු වන අතර LEVEL UP දෙවන අදියර සමග සම්බන්ධ වීම අප ඉතා වුමනාවෙන් බලාසිටිමු.

லெவல் அப் எனும் திட்டம் கிளஸ்டர் 7 இனால் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. இதில்கொழும்பு கிழக்கு ரோட்ராக்ட் ஸ்தாபனம், பானதுறை ரோட்ராக்ட்ஸ்தாபனம், கொழும்பு பல்கலைக்கழக ரோட்ராக்ட் ஸ்தாபனம், கொழும்புசட்டபீடம், கண்டி ரோட்ராக்ட் ஸ்தாபனம், நீர்கொழும்பு ரோட்ராக்ட்ஸ்தாபனம், மொறட்டுவை பல்கலைக்கழக பழைய மாணவர் ரோட்ராக்ட்ஸ்தாபனம், இரசாயன விஞ்ஞான கல்லூரி ரோட்ராக்ட் ஸ்தாபனம், நல்லூர்ரோட்ராக்ட் ஸ்தாபனம் அடங்கும்.

லெவல் அப் எனும் கூட்டுத் திட்டத்தை ஆரம்பிப்பதற்காக ரோட்ராக்ட் ஸ்தாபனங்கள் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து, தம்புள்ளையிலுள்ளதென்னக்கோன் மத்திய மகாவித்தியாலயத்திற்கு ஐப்பசி மாதம் 21ஆம் திகதி பார்வையிட சென்றன.

முதலாம் நாள் க.போ.த (சா.த.) மாணவர்களுக்கான ஒரு கணித மீட்டல் நிகழ்ச்சி, அவர்களின் அறிவை நினைவூட்டி புதுப்பிக்கும் நோக்குடன், கல்கிசை விஞ்ஞான கல்லூரி உப அதிபர் திருமதி ஜனரஞ்சனி வத்தகேயினால் நடாத்தப்பட்டது. இவர் அனுபவம் மிக்க தகுதி வாய்ந்த ஒரு கணித ஆசிரியர் ஆவார்.

பாடசாலை ஆரம்பிப்பதற்கான மணி அடித்த வேளையில் வந்திறங்கியரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ், பாடசாலை நிர்வாகத்தினரை குறுகிய வேளை சந்தித்தனர். பின்னர் கருத்தரங்கு நடைபெறப்போகும் இடத்திற்கு அழைத்துச்செல்லப்பட்டனர்.

மங்கள விளக்கேற்றலின் பின்னர் கருத்தரங்கு தொடங்கியது. உப அதிபரின் உற்சாகமான வரவேற்புரை மாணவர்களின் கவனத்தை எழுப்பியது. 27 மாணவர்களும் தமது இடங்களில் அமர்ந்த பின்னர் ரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ் அந்நாளுக்கான கணிதப் பரீட்சை வினாத்தாளையும் பிரயோசனமுள்ள கணித உபகரணப் பெட்டியொன்றையும் வழங்கினர்.

பயிற்சியளிப்பவர் கேள்விகளுக்கு விடைகளை விளக்கப்படுத்திய வேளையில் ரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ் மாணவர்களை கவனமாக அவதானித்து அவர்களுக்கு தேவைப்படும் வேளையில் அறிவுரைகள் வழங்கினர். சவாலான பகுதிகளை இலகுவாக்கும் முறையில் ஆசிரியர் கூட கவனம் செலுத்தினர். இம்முழுக் கருத்தரங்கும் விளக்கமாகவும் கிரகித்து கொள்ளக்கூடியதாகவும் அமைந்திருந்தது.

மாணவர்களின் மதிய உணவு வேளையில் இளைய மாணவர்கள் பாடசாலை மைதானத்தில் களிப்புடன் விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். ரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ் மைதானத்திற்குள் சென்று வெவ்வேறு குழுக்களுடன் உரையாடிய போது பிள்ளைகள் தங்களது சொந்த வாழ்க்கை விபரங்களையும் தங்களது கல்வி, பொழுதுபோக்குகள் பற்றிய விபரங்களையும் பகிர்ந்தனர். எல்லா மாணவர்களும் புதிய நிகழ்வுகள் பற்றி ஆராய்ந்து அறிந்து கொள்வதில் ஆர்வம் காட்டினர். ரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ் இப்பிள்ளைகள தன்னம்பிக்கையுள்ள, ஆவல்மிகுந்த, எல்லாவற்றையும் பற்றியும் வினவும் தன்மையுள்ளவர்களாய் கண்டு கொண்டார்கள்.

இடைவேளையின் பின்னர் கருத்தரங்கம் மறுபடியும் தொடங்கியபொழுது, ரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ் ஆசிரியர் வருகை தராத ஒரு வகுப்பறைக்குச்சென்று மாணவர்களோடு சொல் விளையாட்டுக்கள் மூலம்கலந்துரையாடினர். மிகுந்த ஆர்வத்துடன் மாணவர்கள்பங்குபற்றியதால் இன்னொரு வகுப்பும் இதில் கலந்து கொண்டார்கள்.பின்பு இவ்விளையாட் டை ஒரு போட்டியாக மாற்றினார்கள்.

ரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ் இந்த பாடசாலையை சுற்றிப்பார்த்து அதை முன்னேற்றுவதற்கான வழிகளை மேலும் ஆராய்ந்தார்கள்.

மாணவர்கள் எழுப்பிய கேள்விகளுக்குவிடையளித்து ஆசிரியர் கருத்தரங்கை முடிவுக்கு கொண்டுவந்தார். பாடசாலைஆசிரியர்களில் ஒருவர், பயிற்சி அளித்தஆசிரியருக்கும் ரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ்க்கும் அன்றுசமுகமளித்த மாணவர்களுக்கும்அவர்களுடைய பங்களிப்புக்காக நன்றிசெலுத்தினார். மாணவர்களின் கடினஉழைப்புக்காக அவர்களுக்கு சிற்றுண்டி வழங்கப்பட்டது.

களைப்புடனும், திருப்தியுடனும் ரோட்ராக்டர்ஸ் கொழும்பு நகரிற்கு திரும்பினர். பாடசாலையின் நன்றியினாலும் ஆர்வத்தினாலும் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டனர். தங்களுடைய சேவைகள் மெச்சப்பட்டது என்றுணர்ந்து சேவைத்திட்டத்தின் இரண்டாம் நாளிற்காக ஆர்வமுள்ளனர்.
