Safety First-“Be a gift to the world”

'Safety First' was a project organized by the Rotaract Clubs of Faculty of Law, University of Colombo and the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa. The project was a community service endeavor where the rotaractors visited Sri Saranathissa Vidyalaya in Yatadolawattha, which is a rural school in Matugama on 30th of May 2016. It was conducted following the Rotary theme "Be a Gift to the World".A female nurse from National Institute of Health Sciences conducted an interactive session for more than 100 students on child health related criteria including nutrition, first aid and personal hygiene. The students actively participated in the interactive session and the feedback from the principal and the teachers of the school was warm and encouraging since the students do not often get the opportunity to take part in such productive interactive sessions on child health related topics. The two clubs jointly donated a first aid box along with essential medication to the school, filling a long over due necessity of the school.
The organizing committee of the two clubs planned the project through a Whatsapp group created for the purpose and the others members were informed through the official Facebook group.
